On July 13, 1963, it was approved by a 2 to 1 majority to establish the ABC Store and the retail off-premises sale of beer and wine. The first ABC Store operation was housed in a temporary location on South Sterling Street, and began operation in November of 1963. The ABC Store was moved to West Fleming Drive in June of 1964.

Through the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, our goal is to provide and enforce necessary regulations to control the appropriate distribution and sale of spirits, as to best serve the public's interest. Morganton ABC Board staff members adhere to G.S. 18-B.

The Morganton ABC Board's net profits from the sale of alcoholic beverages in the system are distributed on a quarterly basis in accordance with the Enabling Act.
