On July 13, 1963, a 2 to 1 majority approved the establishment of the ABC Store, facilitating alcohol distribution alongside the retail off-premises sale of beer and wine.

The first operation of Morganton ABC took place in a temporary location on South Sterling Street, beginning in November of 1963. By June 1964, the ABC Store was relocated to West Fleming Drive, expanding its spirits sales presence in the community.

Through the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, our goal is to provide and enforce necessary regulations for alcohol distribution and the sale of spirits, in order to best serve the public's interest. The Morganton ABC Board staff members adhere to G.S. 18-B.

The Morganton ABC Board distributes its net profits from spirits sales, derived from alcohol distribution within the system, on a quarterly basis in accordance with the Enabling Act.
